Lazarus Linked to Bybit’s $1B Crypto Hack, Data Reveals
2 min read
Bybit, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges with over 60 million users, was affected by an amazing hack of $ 1 billion. When speculation about the responsible grew, the Blockchain investigator ZachxBt entered with concrete evidence that combines the attack with the notorious cyber criminality group of North Korea, Lazarus.
How did you do that? And what happens next to Bitbit? Let us collapse.
Who is behind the Bybit hack?
The Blockchain Intelligence platform Arkham Intelligence recently offered a bounty of 50,000 ARKM (worth around 30,000 US dollars) to identify the hackers behind the attack.
ZachxBT accepted the challenge and discovered solid proof that the Lazarus group was behind the violation. With his deep knowledge of the analysis of on-chains, he pursued suspicious transactions, artificial pockets before the attack, forensic diagrams and precise timing alles back to the group.
How the hack has unfolded
According to ZachxBt's findings, Lazarus first carried out small test transactions before starting the full attack. This is a usual tactic used by hackers to ensure that their method works before large sums of stolen stolen means are moved.
By careful persecution of artificial pockets and temps of the transaction, he was able to trace the stolen funds on addresses that were controlled by Lazarus.
Arkham Intelligence confirmed that ZachxBt shared his results with the Bybit security team to support their investigations. While Bitbit cannot yet submit a detailed explanation, these new evidence could help to restore the stolen means or to strengthen security to prevent future violations.
Lazarus: The group behind Crypto's greatest theft
Lazarus is notorious for the focus on crypto companies and was responsible for some of the greatest cyber thefts of history. The group consists of several teams with different skills -some are specialized in phishing fraud, other advanced blockchain attacks, and some use fake identities to infiltrate crypto companies.
In 2024 alone, Lazarus stole over 1.3 billion US dollars from various crypto projects – and made 61% of all stolen crypto this year.
After the results of ZachxBT are now public, all eyes are aimed at Bybit to see how they react to this record -breaking attack.
